Change Your Health - Change Your Toothbrush

It's the beginning of a new calendar year.  As usual people are making all kinds of resolutions and re-evaluations for their lives. Most of the mass media items you read in the magazines or online have to do with either improving your health, reducing the clutter in your life, or striving to maintain a positive mental attitude - all of which technically go hand and hand of course, but that's for another day.

I've personally never been one that finds the "to do" solution lists attractive, or especially the utterly boring and unimaginative "10 steps to whatever" suggestions that tend to glut our culture and fill volumes of self help books - but I did want to pass on to our readers one of the simplest things that you can honestly do this new year to help improve your overall physical health.

Change your toothbrush regularly.

I know, you're either smiling at this suggestion...thinking your already knew that...or saying "well duh" out loud.  Most of the time I find it's the latter.

In fact, did you know that every time you have a cold, the flu or a sore throat...especially strep throat...you should replace your toothbrush so that you do not continue to put the same germs back into your system day after day?  It's really a very simple, logical concept - but you'd be surprised how many people either don't think about it - wondering why their cold just won't go away - or they bristle (pun intended) at the idea of spending extra money on a new toothbrush - which makes no sense whatsoever, because the couple of dollars you spend on a new toothbrush will save you many dollars in medical co-pays, doctor's fees and antibiotics.

And for those, who for one reason or another can't go out and purchase a new toothbrush, try boiling the one you have to get rid of the germs.  Yep, just like my mother and grandmother use to do back in the day. Even they where aware of how doing this one simple thing would improve and maintain your health.

Stay well!

  1. We should brush our teeth everyday to have a good and healthy oral health but we must remember that we are also using our toothbrush everyday to brush our teeth and it is quite important to change our toothbrush regularly, shall we say once every 2 months would be a good way in order to prevent some bacterias and germs that might have "lived" in the toothbrush.
